Set up your DAW

Reaper

Jude connects to Reaper two ways, and you only need one. OSC is the connection we recommend — it's the more modern protocol, and it gives the engineer richer readback: real dB values and every track in the project live at once. Mackie Control is the classic control-surface route and works just as well for everyday tracking. Either way it's one entry in Reaper's preferences.

Option A — OSC (recommended)

  1. In Jude, open Settings → DAW and choose Reaper (OSC).
  2. In Reaper, open Preferences → Control/OSC/web, click Add, and choose OSC (Open Sound Control).
  3. Set the mode to Configure device IP+port and enter:
    • Device IP: 127.0.0.1 (Jude and Reaper are on the same Mac)
    • Receive on port: 8000
    • Send to port: 9000
  4. Click OK. The DAW light in Jude's header turns green when Reaper starts talking.

Launch order doesn't matter with OSC — start Jude and Reaper in whichever order you like, and Jude finds Reaper either way.

These port numbers match Jude's defaults, shown in Settings → DAW → OSC connection. If you ever change them, change them in both places: Reaper's "Receive on port" is Jude's DAW port, and "Send to port" is Jude's port.

Option B — Mackie Control

  1. In Jude, open Settings → DAW and choose Reaper (MCU).
  2. In Reaper, open Preferences → Control/OSC/web, click Add, and choose Mackie Control Universal.
  3. Set both the MIDI input and the MIDI output to Project Jude. If that port isn't in the list, launch Jude first and reopen the dialog — Jude publishes the port when it starts.
  4. Click OK, and watch for the green DAW light.

Good to know in Reaper

  • Dialogs pause the link. When Reaper pops a dialog — the save prompt after a take, for instance — it stops talking to control surfaces until you dismiss it. Jude may briefly show the DAW as not responding; it recovers by itself the moment the dialog closes.
  • Switching between OSC and MCU is safe any time in Settings → DAW — the connection re-establishes from Reaper's next traffic and the track scan re-runs.
